Measure correctly

First and foremost, it's important to determine your morphology and choose the right size for your jeans. To do this, it's essential to take your measurements correctly. Here are a few tips to help you do just that:

  • Use a dressmaker's tape: this type of tape is flexible and precise for measuring different parts of your body.
  • Measure your waist: place the tape around your waist, just above your hips. Make sure the tape is horizontal and not too tight.
  • Measure your hips: position the tape at the widest point of your hips, usually at buttock level.
  • Write down your measurements: write them down on a piece of paper so you can keep them for when you buy your jeans.

Once you've taken your measurements, refer to the size guide for the brand of jeans you wish to buy. It's important not to rely solely on your usual size, as sizes can vary from one brand to another.

Women's morphology

There are 6 different body types. To define yours, stand in front of the mirror in your underwear, feet flat, and look at the proportions of your shoulders, waist and hips. Remember, there's no such thing as a right or wrong body type: we're all different, and it's the diversity of our bodies that makes us as beautiful as we are unique ;)

A-shaped morphology (pyramid)
  • Hips are wider than shoulders
  • The waist may or may not be marked

This is the most common silhouette. The aim is to emphasize the upper part of the body, without emphasizing the hips, to restore balance to the silhouette.

What cut of jeans should I wear for an A-line silhouette?

Waist height: Low-rise jeans can create an unflattering "settling" effect. Choose a mid-rise waist to harmonize your silhouette.

If you have an A-shaped body, avoid skinny jeans, which will accentuate the difference between your hips and shoulders. Especially if you like tight-fitting tops.

What clothes will suit you best?

  • Flared dresses
  • Loose-fitting blouses
  • Short jackets

With a pyramid silhouette, don't hesitate to tuck your top into your pants. To accentuate the top and give it more structure, we play with patterns or details: boat necklines, ruffled collars, balloon sleeves... The final touch, with a low neckline, is to accessorize with a necklace.

Morphology in 8 (eight)
  • Shoulders as broad as hips
  • Marked waistline

This is a very balanced morphology, with lovely curves. The ideal is to follow these curves. For an even more feminine silhouette, the aim is to reinforce the waistline.

What cut of jeans should I wear for a figure 8?

Which garments suit you best?

  • Slim-fitting jackets and tops
  • Waisted dresses
  • Skater dresses
  • High-waisted skirts

As you can see, with a figure-eight morphology, the most important thing is to emphasize the waist. Avoid emphasizing the hips or shoulders, to preserve the harmony of the silhouette. If you choose to wear a garment that isn't naturally fitted, accessorize it with a waist belt and you're done!

Sans titre-13
X-shaped morphology (hourglass shape)
  • Aligned shoulders and hips
  • Marked waistline

The X shape is very similar to the 8 shape, but thinner and less voluptuous. This is the easiest silhouette, as it allows you to wear almost anything. For an even more feminine result, the aim is to accentuate the waistline.

What cut of jeans should I wear for an X-shaped silhouette?

Which garments suit you best?

  • Slim-fitting jackets and tops
  • Waisted dresses
  • Skater dresses
  • High-waisted skirts

Since the hourglass figure is naturally balanced, you can wear anything, while taking care to preserve harmony. Marking the waist is always a good idea, so don't hesitate to opt for slim-fitting garments, or if they aren't, accessorize them with a belt.

Sans titre-14
V-shaped morphology (inverted pyramid)
  • Shoulders wider than hips
  • Little or no waistline, narrow pelvis

The V-shaped silhouette is generally sporty. The aim is to avoid emphasizing the upper part of the body, and to rebalance the lower part by adding volume.

What cut of jeans should I wear for a V-shaped silhouette?

  • Slim and super-slim jeans, to enhance your slim legs.
  • Bootcut jeans, to balance your silhouette
  • Boyfit jeans, for fuller hips

For waist height, it's best to avoid high-waisted jeans, preferring normal or low-rise.

What clothes will suit you best?

  • Skater or straight dresses
  • Straight or voluminous skirts
  • V-necklines, not too plunging

Avoid ruffled, bare or asymmetrical shoulders.

With an inverted-pyramid morphology, it's best to opt for a sober, close-fitting top, with no pronounced shoulder detail, and to stick to neutral colors. Conversely, if the emphasis is on the lower body, you can play with volumes, patterns and colors. To enhance slender legs, opt for a short dress or skirt.

Sans titre-15
H-shaped morphology (rectangle)
  • Aligned shoulders and hips
  • Slender waistline

The H-shaped silhouette is very straight and slim. The goal is to create an outfit that adds volume to the shoulders and hips, to give the illusion of a marked waist and feminize the ensemble.

What cut of jeans should I wear for an H-shaped silhouette?

  • Low-rise or mid-rise jeans
  • Slim or super-slim jeans, to enhance your slim legs
  • Straight jeans, to preserve harmony

Which garments suit you best?

  • Shouldered tops and jackets
  • Straight, unbelted coats
  • Skater or empire-cut dresses
  • Flared skirts

The rectangle morphology is very harmonious, the challenge being to refine the waist by playing on the shoulders and hips. We like tops with pronounced shoulder details, such as ruffles or balloon sleeves. On the other hand, avoid big belts at the waist, which would have the opposite effect to that desired.

Sans titre-12
O (round) morphology
  • Broad, aligned shoulders and hips
  • The waist is not very pronounced

The O-shape silhouette is full and voluptuous, with rounded shapes and generous breasts. As the waist is not very pronounced, the aim is to add structure and lengthen the silhouette.

What cut of jeans should I wear for an O-shaped silhouette?

When it comes to waist height, low-rise models are also to be avoided, as they tend to create a "crushing" effect. Instead, opt for a mid-to-high waist to sheath and elongate the silhouette.

What clothes will suit you best?

  • V-necklines
  • Straight-cut tops
  • Straight knee-length skirts
  • Empire dresses, or full dresses with a high waistline

If you have a round body, fluid fabrics and straight cuts are best! Avoid bold patterns such as stripes, gingham or houndstooth, as well as voluminous details. The finishing touch is a pair of high heels to lift the silhouette.

That should help you see things more clearly!

And if you still have a few questions, here are some additional tips.

Which jeans or pants for long legs?

If you've got long legs, flare, straight, slim or skinny jeans are just what you need. And don't be afraid to experiment with colored or printed pants!

If, however, you have a complex about the length of your legs, here's a little tip: bootcut jeans will give the illusion of shortening them!

Which pair of jeans for petite women?

To slim your silhouette, opt for slim or super-slim or straight jeans that give an impression of length, and don't hesitate to choose cropped jeans, which stop above the ankles and save you from having to hem them several times!

On the other hand, avoid flare or bootcut jeans at all costs, as they'll pack you in even tighter - unless they're 7/8ths, in which case you're good to go, or if you've got a 70s party planned and absolutely insist on bell-bottoms, whatever the cost... ;)

Which jeans for thigh-highs?

For slimmer thighs, there's nothing like bootcut jeans! If you prefer to hide your curves, you can also opt for a flare. Finally, boyfriend or paperbag jeans are also good alternatives for a relaxed, thigh-hugging look.

What jeans to wear when you've got a belly?

As we've said over and over again, there's nothing like high-waisted jeans to hide curves and refine the silhouette: they're a sure bet!

Which jeans to wear to get a nice butt?

The choice of jeans to enhance your buttocks will depend on your natural shape.

If you have a flat buttock, opt for low-waisted jeans to enhance the shape.

If you've already got a bountiful bottom, high-waisted jeans will avoid crushing it.

And what's more, our Holy Grail of the gluteus maximus, our iconic Alexa model, is available in all these options! Low-rise, mid-rise or high rise, regular or cropped length, super slim, slim or straight, there's a choice for every body type, and in every case, they'll make your bum look bountiful thanks to their heart-shaped rise and cleverly placed back pockets!

Additional tips for choosing the right jeans:

Now that you know the mistakes to avoid based on your body type, here are a few more tips to perfect your choice of jeans:

  • Color: A general rule of thumb is that darker shades are more flattering and slimming, while lighter shades give the impression of adding volume. So prefer dark jeans if you want to slim your figure, and light jeans if you want to give your legs more shape. Note that washing jeans can add volume to your thighs or buttocks through a play of shadows.
  • Details: Pockets, seams, buttons and other decorative elements can have an impact on the overall look of your jeans. For example, pockets set too low on the buttocks can make them look droopy, while pockets that are too small can make them look disproportionate. So think about the details that will best flatter your body type.
