Corduroy
Corduroy is easily recognized by its raised ribs and soft feel. A few simple steps are all it takes to preserve its texture, color, and fit.
Washing
Always refer to your garment's care label: it indicates the most suitable treatment for its composition and finishes.
Close buttons and zips, empty the pockets, and turn your garment inside out. This minimizes friction on the ribs and protects the velvety look of the fabric.
If the label permits machine washing, select a gentle cycle at a low temperature with a detergent suited for colors. Wash your corduroy with similar colors and fabrics.
Avoid towels, fleece, or lint-heavy items: corduroy easily attracts fibers.
Drying
After washing, gently shake the garment to relax creases and restore volume to the ribs. Prefer air drying, away from direct heat sources and prolonged sunlight.
Tumble drying should be avoided unless explicitly authorized by the label: heat and friction can alter the feel, flatten the ribs, or shrink certain fabric compositions.
Ironing
Prefer steaming to smooth out your garment without crushing its ribs. If ironing is necessary, iron it inside out at the temperature indicated on the label, using a thin cloth between the iron and the garment to protect the velvety texture.
Do not press directly on the corduroy: excessive pressure can permanently mark its texture.
The expert's advice
Between washes, air out your garment and remove dust particles using a soft brush, brushing in the direction of the ribs. For a localized stain, act quickly and test any stain remover on an inconspicuous area.
