Accessories
It's the details that make the outfit. To extend the life of your shoes and leather goods, adopt these simple habits.
The Shoes
Alternating: Never wear the same pair of leather shoes two days in a row. Leather needs 24 hours to wick away moisture from perspiration and regain its shape.
Shoe trees: Preferably made of cedar wood, they absorb moisture and maintain the shape of your shoes to prevent creases.
Shoe polish: For smooth leather models, polish them regularly to reactivate the color and nourish the leather.
Belts
Storage: Do not leave your belt tightly rolled or hanging directly in your pant loops. Ideally, hang it by the buckle on a hook or roll it very loosely (without creasing it) in a drawer.
How to wear: To prevent a leather belt from deforming or permanently curving to one side due to posture, occasionally change the direction in which you thread it through your belt loops.
Maintenance: Just like with shoes, a small application of nourishing leather milk once a year on your smooth belts will prevent them from cracking at the hole you use most often.
Expert's advice
If you need to punch an extra hole in your belt, absolutely avoid using scissors or knives, which shear the material and will eventually tear it when worn. Instead, go to a store or a shoemaker to use a hole punch.
