Did you know? The word "Denim" comes from "sergé de Nîmes". Yes, your favorite fabric, which by extension gave its name to the garment, is French in origin. And so are we!
Jeans have historically been made from Denim, a cotton twill weave characterized by fine oblique patterns. This tight twill weave gives jeans their strength and durability. It generally consists of a blue warp thread and a white or ecru weft thread, which gives the fabric its textured appearance.
There are two types of denim canvas: raw and treated. Raw denim is indigo-dyed and untreated after manufacture, so the fabric will patina naturally when you wear it for a very authentic, unique result (just like you!). But most jeans undergo a variety of treatments to achieve the faded effect that we love so much and that gives our jeans all their character. Finally, a pair of treated jeans is a bit of a "Jackpot" option for Denim Aficionados who love vintage-look canvas but don't have the patience to wait for their favorite jeans to develop a patina as they move!
